The Truckee River Fund Protects our Water Source
Since the first grant in January 2006 more than $11 million in grants has flowed through the Truckee River Fund to take care of the Truckee River and its watershed. The Truckee River is our life-line. 85% of our drinking water comes through the river from its watershed in the Sierras. We play on its shores or tube down the rills, we walk or bike along the pathway. We fish, we photograph, we boast about it. We love the river. The Truckee River ties the residents of our valley together. The Truckee River Fund is funded by the Truckee Meadows Water Authority. Its grants are made through a public process. As part of the process, The Community Foundation releases a public, competitive Request for Proposal (RFP) in the spring and fall of each year. Organizations are invited to submit project proposals along with proof of matching funding. After the RFP closes, the Community Foundation staff vet and organize the proposals for the fund advisory committee. Grants selected by a nine-member fund advisory committee are then taken to the TMWA Board of Directors at a public meeting for final approval.
