Five Lucky Sportsmen Win Nevada 2016 Dream Tags

July 12, 2016 Reno, NV—Five lucky hunters are preparing for their dream hunt in Nevada after winning one of the five tags in the NV Dream Tags raffle on July 1^st. Every winner is celebrating the rare opportunity for a hunt of a lifetime. The common reaction was—at first—disbelief and then whoops and cheers as they realized just how significant their $5 raffle ticket purchase became.  2017 NV Dream Tags will be for sale starting September 1^st.  Hunters can purchase their chances through the official site, nvdreamtag.org. One Dream Tag was available for each of the following species: Mule Deer, Antelope, Desert (Nelson) Bighorn Sheep, California Bighorn Sheep, and Elk. The NV Dream Tags program was established by the Nevada Legislature in the 2011 session. The Legislature named the Community Foundation of Western Nevada to administer the Dream Tags Charitable Fund, which is where proceeds from the raffle are managed. This year’s raffle brought in more than $179,000 for wildlife habitat rehabilitation projects. The NV Dream Tag program is promoted nationally. 2016 winners reside in California, Missouri, Utah, and Nevada. Stuart Marsden from Crescent Valley, Nevada won the Antelope tag. James Norris from St. Louis, Missouri won the California Bighorn Sheep tag. The Mule Deer tag was won by Franklin Azevedo from Dos Palos, California. Travis Rigby of Cedar City, Utah is the lucky winner of the Elk tag. The Nelson (Desert) Bighorn Sheep tag went to Timothy Nelson of Santa Cruz, California. Wildlife habitat rehabilitation projects are awarded via a competitive grants process administered by the nonprofit NV Dream Tags Fund. Projects may include restoration of large areas of the state that have been ravaged by wildfires and drought, water availability for vulnerable herds, emergency response, and other projects deemed critical by the NV Dream Tags advisory board. Nonprofit organizations as well as government agencies are welcome to apply for project funding. The 2016 request for proposals for rehabilitation and restoration projects is open until August 2, 2016.
