Cynthia Chapman Memorial Scholarship

Cynthia Chapman was a renowned pianist who was dedicated to the pursuit of science and education. She devoted much of her life developing educational videos for Encyclopedia Britannica. This scholarship is in honor of her exceptional accomplishments and career.

The Cynthia Chapman Memorial Scholarship is designed for students who have a background in music (such as playing an instrument, choir, band, etc.) and who are pursuing a degree in a science related field. This scholarship is for graduating high school seniors from Northern Nevada, with a preference for those from Eureka County. This is a one-time award of up to $2,000.

Eligible applicants will meet the following criteria: 

  • A graduating high school senior from Northern Nevada, with a preference for those from Eureka County
  • Have an unweighted GPA of 3.7 or above
  • Must be pursuing a 4-year degree from a college or university anywhere in the U.S. 
  • Must be seeking a degree in a science-related field
  • Must have a connection/background in music (i.e. takes lessons to play a music instrument, is part of the school band or choir, etc.) 
  • Agrees to maintain a minimum 2.5 cumulative GPA and be enrolled full-time while receiving the scholarship. 

In addition to submitting an application online, students will need to attach: 

  • Most recent high school transcript
  • A letter of recommendation from a teacher or school official 
  • A one page essay explaining how music has had an impact on their life and discussing their plans for pursuing a science degree
