Sarah Jahr – New Community Foundation Staff Member
We welcome Sarah Jahr to our staff on Monday, September 12. Sarah is joining us as our Associate Director of Initiatives. She will be our third AmeriCorps VISTA staff member and will be with us for one year in service.
Sarah is highly qualified for the position and will be a great help with our initiatives work. Sarah is from Truckee. She recently graduated from Cal Poly San Luis Obispo earning a Bachelor’s Degree in Modern Languages. Sarah has significant experience within the nonprofit sector. During college, she volunteered with Envirolution, wrote grants, organized a poetry slam, served as a teacher intern for low-income middle school students, worked in a bilingual elementary classroom where Spanish was the primary language of instruction, and even helped our peers at the Tahoe Truckee Community Foundation with fundraisers.
Sarah recognizes the importance of hearing directly from those affected by an issue, just as we do with our initiatives, and is excited to learn more about nonprofit operations. Within a few minutes of interviewing Sarah, it was clear she is an exceptional fit for the position. Sarah will be working closely with Nick on the You’N-I Initiative and on the Caregiver Support Initiative.
The opportunities provided for support staff through the AmeriCorps VISTA program has made an incredible impact on the Community Foundation’s work. We are grateful for the generosity that two previous Americorps VISTA volunteers, Nick and Camille, have shown through their commitment to service. Their talent, time, and professionalism make a difference in the lives of struggling youth and senior caregivers.
The work of the Community Foundation is driven by your philanthropy. Give me a call and learn how we help donors with current as well as estate giving. Your engagement with the Foundation will make us stronger. Together we will build a stronger and more vibrant northern Nevada.
