Caregiver Support Initiative Email Discussion Group  

The Caregiver Support Initiative Email Discussion Group is a virtual forum for family caregivers to connect with caregivers to start a discussion, ask questions, and give advice on caregiving-related topics. Below are some stories family caregivers have shared: 

Topic: Caring for a family member with dementia:

"Cherish your good memories and in time the memories of the time with dementia will recede, although they will always be there.  It is time now to take stock of yourself and your goals for the future. Make certain that your legal papers are all in order, and that you have a Durable Power of Attorney for Health in hand. 

As my husband used to tell his patients, don't make any major decisions for at least a year. We have watched people move far too soon after a death, and it is often a disaster. We have also found that people who volunteer or have something constructive to do are far happier in their new life as a single person. It is time to take care of you."
