NV Energy Powerful Partnership Scholarship Demonstrates Commitment to Community.

At NV Energy the power of good is always on. One of the key ways NV Energy delivers good is through the NV Energy Foundation. The mission of the Foundation is to provide financial donations to nonprofit organizations throughout Nevada that support education and youth, the environment, arts and multicultural outreach, and health and human services. One of the ways the NV Energy Foundation demonstrates its commitment to Nevada communities by supporting education and youth through the Powerful Partnership scholarship program. This longstanding scholarship program is made possible through a valuable partnership with the Community Foundation of Western Nevada, who administers the application and selection process. In 2017, the NV Energy Foundation awarded 32 current high school seniors from northern Nevada with the Powerful Partnership Scholarship and 15 scholarships for current community college students, providing a total of $49,000 in scholarships. Since 2000, NV Energy has awarded nearly $600,000 in scholarships for northern Nevada students and nearly $1.7 million in scholarships statewide. These scholarships support the efforts of students enrolled in higher education at any accredited university, college or trade school. “The NV Energy Foundation is proud to provide scholarships, making these incredible recipients' academic dreams a reality,” said Simmons. “Each of these young adults have promising futures, and we look forward to learning about their continued success in college and beyond.” More than 70 students applied for scholarships in 2017, the most in the program’s history. Each year, a selection committee carefully reviews each application and makes the final selections. Criteria for the Powerful Partnership Scholarship include a resume, personal statement outlining career goals, an essay describing the value of community service and volunteer experience, as well as a letter of recommendation from a school official. The NV Energy Foundation and the Community Foundation recognize that these scholarships not only help the individuals but also contribute to helping advance key issues in the community such as workforce development, economic development and supporting diversity in higher education STEM programs. Northern Nevada has a history of coming together to improve the community and the NV Energy Foundation is proud to provide resources to help advance the region as it continues to grow. In addition to the Powerful Partnership Scholarship, NV Energy and its employees are passionate about the communities they serve. In 2016 alone, NV Energy and the NV Energy Foundation gave more than $5.5 million to 335 nonprofit organizations throughout Nevada. Employees volunteered more than 37,500 hours to causes statewide and are on track to exceed those hours this year. When NV Energy was acquired, Berkshire Hathaway Energy, NV Energy’s parent company, provided an endowment of $16 million to the NV Energy Foundation, ensuring our Foundation’s ability to support communities served by NV Energy.
