Northern Nevada Philanthropy Experts Earn Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy CAP® Designations

Philanthropy Experts

The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada announces that Lyndsey Crossley and Lauren Renda earned the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy (CAP®) professional designation from Richard D. Irwin Graduate School of The American College of Financial Services. They are two of the four active professionals in the State of Nevada to earn the CAP®.

A chartered advisor in philanthropy is a trained expert in charitable giving. Candidates for the CAP® designation must complete a rigorous18-month program consisting of three graduate-level courses in philanthropic studies and six hours of exams. The curriculum addresses the advanced design, implementation, and management of charitable gift techniques and strategies and philanthropic tools that include charitable trusts, private foundations, supporting organizations, donor-advised funds, pooled income funds, and charitable gift annuities.

The CAP® program provides the knowledge and tools needed by professionals in the nonprofit and financial services fields to help clients reach their charitable giving goals and estate planning goals. Philanthropic advising services offered to people opening donor advised funds at the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada include nonprofit research, generational giving strategies, Legacy giving, and custom grant management.

In addition to advising businesses and individuals with donor advised funds, Lauren Renda manages the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada’s 40 scholarship funds and is the philanthropic advisor for the large field of interest funds, such as the Truckee River Fund and Dream Tags Charitable Fund and is the region’s disaster philanthropy expert. Says Renda, “Achieving my CAP® designation during a particularly difficult year has made me all the more proud to have earned this certification. I look forward to putting my designation into action to increase the philanthropic impact of the fundholders with whom I work.”

Lyndsey Crossley is the philanthropic advisor to the Community Foundation Women’s Giving Circle and the Community Foundation of Elko County affiliate fund, manages the Community Foundation Legacy funds, nonprofit endowment funds, and works with families to deepen the impact of their donor advised funds. Says Crossley, “Participating in the Chartered Advisor in Philanthropy program was a challenging endeavor that I am proud to have completed. Expanding my skills to engage donors on a deeper level to create thoughtful and effective giving plans was a rewarding experience, and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”
