New Digs and New Talent!

We’re just wrapping up our third week in the new office and, wow, the setting is amazing!   The open floorplan and access to information, files, and each other has already made a big difference.  I am excited that right across from my office, coincidentally starting the day after our big move, is Shawn Vogel, our new Program Officer. Shawn is settling in very quickly and is clearly a wonderful person who has cared about people in need her entire life. Her 15+ years of experience in education and human-services management positions is evident as she tackles our scholarship programs that are in high gear at the moment. Specific work experience in academic and career advising for students, grants administration, and community outreach, combined with an MS in Counseling Psychology, makes Shawn a great fit for this position. She will keep the Foundation board and staff informed about community needs, manage grant and scholarship programs and represent the Foundation in the community. Perhaps most importantly, Shawn will work closely with the donor-advisors who, through the Foundation, provide generous and important support to causes that matter to them. Please join me in welcoming Shawn. The Foundation is gratified to help with giving to a wide variety of causes throughout northern Nevada. For those of you not familiar with the Great Basin National Park, it is a 77,000-acre park known for its ancient bristlecone pines & Lehman Caves; it is located just southeast of Ely on the eastern edge of Nevada. We are privileged to partner with Great Basin National Park Foundation on a project to build an observatory at the Park. It is wonderful for us to be involved with important projects throughout northern Nevada. For more information please visit their fund page here. If have not already, please update our address to 50 Washington Street, Suite 300, Reno, Nevada, 89503. And when you have time, stop by to see our new digs. We connect people who care with causes that matter. Chris Askin, President & CEO, 775-762-1932.
