Dining Out to Help Out - Streetsmarts 4 Youth
I had a big week of restaurant dining. The deliciousness began with breakfast at the Stonehouse, and a lunch meeting at Daughter’s Café. Today I am having lunch at UnCorked Eatery. Oh, and I picked up some lamb chops at Butcher Boy. Dining out this often makes this an unusual week out for me; I eat most days at my desk. But this week, and for the next four weeks, I am doing my part to support the Community Foundation fundraiser, Streetsmart 4 Youth. 32 local restaurants are participating in Streetsmart 4 Youth. Each restaurant is asking their patrons to add $1 to their checks to help support five organizations in Reno that are serving homeless and struggling youth. I invite you to join me in patronizing them not just to help our region's young people in need, but to encourage this kind of community effort among businesses in Reno and Sparks. Here is a link to the list of restaurants.
Next week I’m planning to visit Mix Cupcakes, Lakeside Bar & Grill, and to pick up a Rum Cake by Bert. It’s hard work, but I am up to the challenge If you want to read more about the Community Foundation’s initiative You-N-I, to help struggling and unsupported youth in Washoe County, here is a link: http://nevadafund.org/about-us/you-n-i-youth-network-initiative/youn-i-resources/
On another note last night I attended the KNPB Aged to Perfection Dinner honoring Mark and Mary K Knobel. It was a terrific event honoring a Mark, who is a Community Foundation founding Board member, by KNPB, our underwriting partner for the Family Estate Planning Series.
We are grateful and proud to work with KNPB to offer free estate planning classes in Reno and Sparks. This series isn't a typical 2-3 hour firehose of information.Instead, the information is presented over seven weeks by top notch fiduciary professional advisors presenting excellent curriculum materials. The current series will end on November 4th, but we will offer it again in the Spring. More than 1,300 members of our community have attended these free classes, and many have completed their estate plans, including gifts to community charities in their bequest arrangements. Local charities sponsor The Family Estate Planning Series. Attendees names and contact information are confidential, and the charities do not ask participants to make a gift. If you haven’t attended these classes, please check out this link and email the Foundation at info@nevadafund.org. We’ll add you to the list and notify you as soon as the spring classes are scheduled. http://nevadafund.org/free-family-estate-planning-workshops-begin-this-month/Thanks again for all you do to support the Community!
