Community Foundation’s Shareholders’ Gathering ‘Connects People’ in a Special Way

A group of about 30 adults gathered at an event, near a table full of appetizers and refreshments.

In past blog posts, I’ve discussed the many benefits of investing, participating, or establishing a fund with the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada. Not only does your involvement with the Community Foundation “connect people who care with causes that matter,” your participation connects you with others in a way that nothing else can, through your generosity of money, time, energy, and spirit.

And there’s another nice benefit of your connection with the Community Foundation: receiving an invitation to our annual Shareholders’ Gathering. Bringing together the key shareholders who are engaged in our work has become an essential way of connecting and appreciating those people who are serving as leaders – and indeed the strength – of the Community Foundation:
•    Community Foundation Fundholders
•    Legacy Society
•    Board of Trustees
•    Advisory Board
•    Community Ambassadors
•    Emeritus Board
•    Professional Advisor Council
•    Corporate Philanthropy Partners
•    Community Foundation staff

Planning is underway for the 2021 edition of this special, invitation-only event. We’ve confirmed the date and location: The evening of Oct. 19 at the California Building in Reno’s Idlewild Park.

The Shareholders’ Gathering is held for those individuals who have personally invested in the Community Foundation, through a gift, establishing a Fund, setting up estate gift “legacy” arrangements, or through the referral of a client.

The theme of this year’s gathering will be the immeasurable contributions of the arts – especially the many arts organizations that have a fund with us. And in keeping with that theme, we’ll have the opportunity to be inspired by keynote speaker Laura Jackson, Music Director and Conductor of the Reno Philharmonic. The event will also feature a visual art display, musical performances, and other activities of interest.

Further, the Shareholders’ Gathering is the Community Foundation’s opportunity to highlight the outstanding impact-makers from the previous year with our awards for Friend of the Foundation, Inspirational Philanthropist, and the James L. Pfrommer Award for Extraordinary Volunteerism. We’ll also introduce new faces and honor our emeritus Board members for their dedicated service.

Of course, the Shareholders’ Gathering wouldn’t be complete without the sharing of financial and service updates, insightful presentations, discussions among fundholders, and the welcome social interactions that have been missing from everyday life the past year.

The Shareholders’ Gathering is held for those individuals who have personally invested in the Community Foundation, through a gift, establishing a Fund, setting up estate gift “legacy” arrangements, or through the referral of a client.

Whether a longtime member or a newcomer to one or more of the groups listed above, lasting memories and wonderful connections again await invitees to the 2021 Shareholders’ Gathering. It is my hope that everyone reading this column, who has not yet become personally involved in our work, will consider taking that step in the near future.

If you have not yet become a Community Foundation of Northern Nevada shareholder but wish to be more involved, please give me a call. I’ll be delighted to help you get started, and together we can continue to strengthen our community.
