Community Foundation of Elko County Awards $25,000 in Grants
The Community Foundation of Elko County continues its mission of strengthening the community by awarding $25,000 in grants to organizations serving diverse needs across the region.
Communities in Schools of Nevada (CIS) received two grants totaling $7,500 to expand their vital student support services. The first grant of $5,000 supports their innovative tele-health counseling partnership with UNLV, which provides free mental health services to students aged 12 and up during school hours, eliminating traditional barriers to access. An additional $2,500 supports their Level Up 4 Health initiative, which promotes youth wellness through community events and increased healthcare access.
The Wells Family Resource Center was awarded $1,700 for their implementation of the Nevada Pyramid Model Program. This evidence-based early childhood initiative helps young children develop crucial social and emotional skills, teaching them to recognize emotions, follow rules, and build positive relationships with peers.
Nevada Rural Counties RSVP Program received $10,800 for their No Senior Left Behind program. RSVP plays a crucial role in helping seniors and disabled adults maintain independence by connecting them with volunteers and essential services, helping them avoid institutional care and stay safely in their homes.
Northeastern Nevada Special Advocates for the Elderly (SAFE) was granted $5,000 to continue their work protecting elderly residents in guardianship proceedings. SAFE's trained advocates help prevent financial exploitation, physical abuse, and emotional abuse by ensuring each elderly person has qualified representation looking after their welfare and estate.
"These organizations represent the diverse needs in our community - from young children to seniors, from mental health to basic independence," said the Lyndsey Crossley, Philanthropic Advisor for the Community Foundation. "Each grant helps build a stronger, more resilient Elko County."
