About Lexa and Marla DaVee
Lexa and Marla DaVee died tragically in 2022, only months apart. Their legacy lives on through this scholarship dedicated to their memory. Both sisters received their education in Washoe County schools and achieved remarkable academic and professional success.
While Lexa discovered her academic passion later in life, she flourished as a dedicated learner once she found her path. She earned dual Bachelor's degrees in Sociology and Nursing and completed her Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) requirements, preparing to become a nurse practitioner before her passing.
Marla pursued her undergraduate studies at Gonzaga University before attending the William S. Boyd School of Law at UNLV. Her legal career spanned three states - Arizona, Nevada, and California - where she worked extensively with various western tribes. A passionate advocate for women's equality in the workplace, Marla was also an accomplished athlete. As a lifelong soccer player, she and her teammates consistently claimed victory in the Nevada State Cup's open division.
Both Lexa and Marla were dedicated mentors who empowered women and men to pursue higher education. This scholarship aims to support non-traditional students, particularly those pursuing studies in the life sciences, healthcare, nursing, and related fields, carrying forward the sisters' commitment to education and professional development.
