You'N-I Update - #This is Homelessness

From Nick Tscheekar, CFWN Initiatives Director:

This Is Homelessness, Wednesday, March 18 – Friday, March 20. Homeless sleep-out event designed to raise awareness of Reno’s homelessness situation.

Members from the Eddy House, Shamrock Communications, Volunteers of America and I will be participating in the event. The purpose of This Is Homelessness is not to focus on our experiences, but to show there is more to homelessness than the stereotype of an alcoholic or someone who is mentally ill. We want to gather as much information as possible to highlight the daily lives of people who are homeless- especially our community’s growing youth population- and the barriers that keep them on the street. This Is Homelessness will begin at 11am on March 18 with a press conference at the Community Assistance Center on Record Street. There will be another media check-in at The Hub on Riverside Drive on Thursday, March 19 at 5pm. The final stop will be at the Eddy House’s YOUth Resource Center on Friday, March 20 at noon. There will be an open house from 12 p.m. until 5 p.m. and you are invited to tour the facility. The YOUth Resource Center is located at 423 East 6th Street in Reno. Members of the Eddy House board will be available throughout the afternoon to guide tours and meet with guests. More information can be found at http://www.eddyhouse.org/. For those of you who are social media savvy, there will be regular postings on the You’N-I Youth Network Initiative Facebook page, along with the hashtags #ThisIsHomelessness, #CommunityFoundation, #VOANNV, #EddyHouse, and #TheYOUReno. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Thank you for your continued support of the Community Foundation of Western Nevada’s Youth Network Initiative. Best, Nick Tscheekar
