Senior Support Grant Makes Huge Difference in Mary's Life
Mary's story is true and is just one example of what the Senior Support Fund can do.
Mary lived in a very rural setting in the eastern Nevada desert with her husband Sam. Sam became a client of Hospice, receiving care until his death. Mary then fell ill herself and felt isolated and alone in their small home, far from community.
Humboldt Hospice volunteers helped Mary find a place in senior housing in Winnemucca and helped her sign up for Meals on Wheels. As she became less isolated, her health rallied and she used the Senior Bus to get into town and shop at the Frugal Flamingo Hospice Thrift Store, a community gathering place.
As her health stabilized, she decided she was ready to give back to the Hospice that helped her and Sam. She now works one day a week at the Hospice thrift store and looks forward to it all week.
“Mary uses the services available to her to improve her health and happiness. She is a delight and is an asset to all of us. Her smile greets regular and new customers and she is an important part of everyone’s day.” Sherry Smith, Humboldt Hospice DirectorAs fully part of the community, Mary is truly living the rest of her life.
