Professional Advisors are Key Connectors to Community Giving

Professional Advisors in the photo above attend an interactive seminar focusing on the 2018 tax changes and how they affect charitable giving.

Since the inception of the Community Foundation in 1998, professional advisors have been our core link with donors.

The Community Foundation would not be here today if not for the connections and referrals made by our savvy and community-minded investment advisors, attorneys, accountants, and other advisors. They know how their clients’ charitable and financial objectives can be better achieved through an association with the Community Foundation. Just how much do their referrals and connections mean in terms of community giving? Their importance is clear when you look at the last three years of gifts to the Community Foundation.
2016-18 Gifts via referral by Investment Advisors$12 million
2016-18 Gifts via referral by Attorneys$10.1 million
2016-18 Gifts via referrals by Accountants$7.8 million
2016-2018 Gifts via referrals by other Professional Advisors$2.7 million
These numbers may be understated because not all our donors tell us how they learned about the Community Foundation’s services. Professional Advisor referrals were responsible for more than 72% of the $45 million total gifts to charitable funds at the Community Foundation during this period.

As with the Community Foundation, professional advisors are connecting people who care with causes that matter.

During 2018 our Professional Advisors Council grew from 48 members to 65.   Professional Advisor Council (PAC) members are professionals in the community who have referred a client to the Community Foundation within the last 18 months. I am proud and honored to be associated with them. A list of PAC members is published on our website, nevadafund.org. PAC membership comes with some nice benefits, such as continuing education programs that focus on charitable giving strategies and provide professional credit. Charitable giving is an appropriate topic of conversation between professional advisors and their clients which often involve sensitive and private matters. The Community Foundation planned giving team respects the client/advisor relationship and serves as an expert charitable giving resource with discretion and integrity.
