Great Grants to Puerto Rico are Timely and Compassionate
Great Grants # 8 Timely and Compassionate grants to two Puerto Rican nonprofits working to help people affected by Hurricane Maria were distributed by several Community Foundation donor advised funds. Each nonprofit is aiding the people of Puerto Rico in different ways. Caritas de Puerto Rico is a member agency of Catholic Charities USA. Their initial response phase was focused on immediate needs, including the most basic essentials: food, water, and shelter. As the work of long-term recovery begins they are preparing to help with resettling people.
The Foundation for Puerto Rico writes, “There is no future in rebuilding the past.” Stabilizing small business with a grant program and providing grants directly to farmers to help them recover, restart and re-engage with the farmers' markets and the agroecological economy including direct produce distribution to restaurants. They are helping the private sector channel their resources to reach those who need it most and are partnering with the Puerto Rican private sector leaders to redesign and rebuild the country and its path towards economic prosperity.
