Friends of Nevada Wilderness Receives Continued Support from Nevada Dream Tags Fund
Recruiting and organizing passionate volunteers who are not overly swayed by the harsh desert climate swings to plant seedlings stretches the NV Dream Tag grant money. This is an ideal grant for several reasons. The reseeding and planting is an effective way of keeping junipers from encroaching and restores crucial mule deer, pronghorn antelope and sage-grouse habitat destroyed by wildfire. In addition, The Friends of Nevada Wilderness project builds citizen engagement as it relies upon volunteers. Once someone has spent a weekend in the extreme climate planting sagebrush seedlings, they are committed to the welfare of that piece of desert and its inhabitants. The Community Foundation encourages involving grass-root and wide-spread resident engagement in finding solutions to Nevada problems.
Grant money comes from the $5 NV Dream Tag chance sales. Five lucky winners win the "Hunt of a lifetime" while Nevada earns much needed money to reclaim our wild areas. NV Dream Tags Fund RFP for reclamation projects is open.
