Disaster Relief Efforts for Southern California Wildfires

Firefighters continue to battle multiple wildfires across southern California, which are fueled by extremely dry conditions and high winds. Thousands of structures and homes have been lost and dozens of people have been killed. 

The California Community Foundation, which has raised over $30 million from generous donors, corporations, and foundations, issued a press release on January 17th that provides an update on the use of funds disbursed from their Wildfire Recovery Fund. To date, they have “awarded more than $15 million in grants to nearly 130 nonprofit organizations in Altadena, Pasadena, the Palisades and other impacted areas in Los Angeles County.” More details can be found here.

The situation in the region is complex and is changing quickly; we will update this list with additional organizations as any significant changes occur. 

California Community Foundation - Wildfire Recovery Fund

  •  Since 2003, CCF’s Wildfire Recovery Fund has awarded over $32 million to support relief and recovery efforts. 
  • CCF’s Wildfire Recovery Fund is focused on supporting long-term solutions to ensure communities are better prepared for future wildfires. 

Pasadena Community Foundation - Eaton Canyon Fire Relief Fund 

  • This Fund provides an opportunity for those who want to support immediate and pressing needs even as the fire continues to spread. 
  • Will work with City leaders and nonprofit organizations to assess and evaluate how to best deploy resources. 

California Fire Foundation 

  • Wildfire & Disaster Relief programs help support victims of wildfires in California, and provides support for firefighters battling the wildfires and for the families of fallen firefighters. 
  • CA Firefighters Benevolent Fund provides a benevolent benefit for not only those firefighters impacted by fire or natural disaster but for those injured or killed in the line of duty. 

Los Angeles Regional Food Bank 

  • The organization is working with government agencies, nonprofit and faith-based partners and others to respond to the fires throughout Los Angeles County. 
  • The food bank is accepting donations of both money and food at its two distribution centers, as well as additional help from volunteers.

Salvation Army- Southern California Division Wildfire Relief Efforts 

  • The Salvation Army provides grants to those displaced by fires and financial assistance for immediate and long-term needs of fire victims. 
  • It also operates shelters and provides emergency housing for those fleeing fires. 

The American Red Cross - Wildfire Relief 

  • Local Red Cross chapters are working around the clock to provide food, shelter, emotional care, recovery planning and financial assistance to support Californians coping with the heartbreaking devastation of the wildfires. 
  • Alongside partners, they’ll continue to assist for weeks and months to come. 

Baby2Baby- Disaster and Emergency Relief Program 

  • Providing essential items such as diapers, food, formula, and hygiene products for children and families in Los Angeles in dire need, collaborating with 470 partner organizations—from schools to shelters and hospitals—in LA County. 

Animal Wellness Foundation - Palisades Fire Relief Fund 

  • Contributions to the fire relief fund to help us house and feed the pets that had to be left behind as their owners evacuated. 

World Central Kitchen 

  • Southern California relief team is providing sandwiches and water to evacuated people in need of immediate relief and resources, as well as to responders and emergency personnel on the frontlines.
