Dixie Lee Bradshaw

Dixie Lee Bradshaw (February 21, 1942 -June 20, 2012) was an educator with the Washoe County School District for 21 years. During her tenure, she proudly served as the principal at Brown Elementary School, Sun Valley Elementary School, and Caughlin Ranch Elementary School.

Dixie and her husband, Bob, financed her self-titled “principal’s fund” at each school. Dixie believed that every student should have the opportunity to reach his or her potential and the purpose of this fund was to provide monies when principals identified funding gaps that threatened student achievement and/or quality of life. She would use the fund to buy an at-risk student lunch after the student achieved a shared goal, buy a school mascot costume, and/or finance a class or school project that did not fit into an existing school budgetary category. Sadly, Dixie passed away after a long, courageous battle with cancer.

Dixie’s family, friends, and colleagues are carrying on her legacy through the Dixie Bradshaw Memorial Principal’s Fund. To date, the fund has supported principal enrichment activities at Sun Valley, Brown, and Caughlin Ranch Elementary Schools. Funding is intended to underwrite student-centered activities that will benefit numerous schoolchildren—including rewarding their learning and achievement successes—by means of dollars that might otherwise not be available due to restrictions on operational funds or other circumstances.

Grants from the Dixie Bradshaw Principal’s Fund are earmarked for Brown, Sun Valley, and Caughlin Ranch Elementary schools—schools where Dixie Bradshaw served as principal during her tenure with Washoe County School District. Grants of $1,000 will be automatically distributed once annually by the end of September of each school year. Monies are to be used to supplement positive behavioral programs. Funds should be used for programs that are student-centered and should be in support of a positive behavioral program.
