10 New Affordable Homes Being Constructed for Sale in Reno Nevada

The Community Housing Land Trust, LLC (CHLT) will break ground on ten new affordable homes in Golden Valley north of Reno this summer.

The 4-bedroom, 3-bath homes will be sold at below-market prices by the Community Housing Land Trust to buyers earning slightly less than 80% of the area median income. The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada created the Community Housing Land Trust in 2018 as an action arising from its mission to strengthen the community through philanthropy and leadership. The CHLT will provide more opportunities to own a home for people who cannot afford rising real estate prices in Northern Nevada.

The City of Reno donated 2.5 acres in Golden Valley for ten homes to be built and sold through the Community Housing Land Trust, making the project possible and the homes affordable.

David Dahl, who has expertise working on affordable home projects, is the developer. The Community Housing Land Trust is working with Starbrook Modular, Aspen Earthworks, Robison Engineering, Phelps Engineering, and Peerless Construction to prepare the sites and build the homes.

These ten homes in Golden Valley are the third project by the Community Housing Land Trust.

The City of Reno made the first donation of land in downtown Reno for the Village on Sage Street dorm-style community for 216 residents with very low income. The Village on Sage Street was developed by the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada and Volunteers of America. Monthly rent of $400 makes the Village on Sage Street an attractive housing option for working people earning minimum wage or those with other income sources such as social security or disability. In 2020 a single-family home was built on donated land in a Reno neighborhood and sold to an income-qualified family. The Community Foundation of Northern Nevada works with the Community Housing Land Trust to define additional new projects. To find out more about the Community Housing Land Trust, please contact Michelle Duggan at the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada at mduggan@nevadafund.org or (775) 333-5499. ### The Community Housing Land Trust LLC was established by the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada in 2019.
