Imagine going it alone at 18.
Who do you turn to for advice, a reality check, a comforting hug or a warm bed and meal when life doesn't work out as planned?
Helping our community's youth who are runaway, homeless, or aging out of foster care get off the streets and on to a stable life doesn't come cheap. You can help the Community Foundation continue to bring people together under their Youth Network Initiative, You'N-I.
You can contribute online to the Community Foundation on March 12
through Nevada's Big Give.
Join with us. Keep the momentum of positive change rolling. Your gift helps somebody's child step up to their rightful place in our community.
Look closely when you are near the downtown bus station, River or parks. Wearing hats, hoodies and backpacks they blend in with other people their age. Some of the homeless youth go to school and couch surf, some work at minimum wage jobs and can't afford an apartment. They don't want you to see them. They don't want to be counted among the chronically homeless people living out their lives from day to day. With youthful optimism these young people hope this is just a rough patch not a life road they are traveling on.
The Community Foundation is leading a conversation with youth on the streets, donors and nonprofit organizations about the unmet needs of vulnerable youth. We are reaching out to youth, nonprofits, counselors, and teachers about our comprehensive, local, go-to online directory of youth services RenoYouthNetwork.com. Additionally, we are supporting with the Eddy House's upcoming YOUth Resource Center, a resource hub for transitory youth as they work to open downtown.
