
Foster Children Education Scholarship
The Foster Children Education Foundation Scholarship supports youth who are or have been in foster care (never legally adopted or expected to be legally adopted) in the State of Nevada or those who were placed with families outside the State of Nevada, and may include students who were adopted at or after age 13. Applicants must have received a high school diploma and desire to earnestly pursue higher education with at least a 2.5 GPA at the time of application, although preference is for a 3.0 GPA or above. Additionally, applicants must have no other significant financial means or other significant financial assistance to pursue their education. Preference will be given to full-time students; funds may be used for vocational or other specialized training and covers tuition, books, and fees for awardees.
Applications must include:
- transcript
- essay (max. one page) written by the student that tells the selection committee about your life, your plans for the future, why you chose your program, how your education will impact your life, and how you plan to finance your education
- letter of nomination from a teacher/counselor who knows the student’s goals, life story
- Ward of the Court Letter (to verify time in the foster care system).
The student is eligible to apply for this scholarship if they:
- are a graduating senior, or have obtained a high school diploma in the State of Nevada
- are, or have been, in foster care (never legally adopted or expected to be legally adopted) in the State of Nevada, or those who were placed with families outside the State of Nevada, and may include students who were adopted at or after age 13; preference will be given to applicants who have been in the foster care system in Washoe County
- are legal residents of the US
- have significant financial need
- have been accepted into an accredited 2-year or 4-year school, or certificate program at a trade school or vocational school
- are not related to the donors
- agree to maintain a minimum 2.5 GPA and provide a copy of unofficial transcripts at the end of each semester they are receiving a scholarship
This scholarship has the potential to be renewed with reapplication.
