Streetsmart 4 Youth – Dine Out, Help Out Homeless Youth in Our Community
Streetsmart 4 Youth, the Community Foundation restaurant fundraiser, is returning this October. Streetsmart 4 Youth emerged from the Community Foundation of Western Nevada’s Youth Network Initiative (You’N-I) to raise awareness about the reality of youth homelessness in Washoe County. Streetsmart 4 Youth supports charities that directly serve the most vulnerable youth in our community. Streetsmart 4 Youth debuted last year with 33 participating restaurants and raised $14,196.00.
This year, 38 restaurants are participating in Streetsmart 4 Youth from October 1 through October 31. At the end of their meal, diners will be asked to make a donation of one dollar or more. The total funds will be distributed evenly among the Eddy House, Planned Parenthood Mar Monte, the Ridge House, and the Washoe County School District Children in Transition program. Learn about our 2016 Streetsmart Charity Partners and how they plan to use the Streetsmart 4 Youth 2016 grants.
With 3,500 homeless students in Washoe County School District, and many more transient and abandoned youth ages 18-24 in Washoe County, it is clear youth homelessness is a big problem in our community. Because of people like you, who last year added a $1 to their check through Streetsmart 4 Youth, I know there are numerous caring members of our community who will again extend a helping hand.
If you plan on dining out this month, I encourage you to visit one of our Streetsmart 4 Youth restaurants. While enjoying a tasty meal or a refreshing drink, donate your dollar and thank these restaurants for their support and compassion toward our youth. Print the list of restaurants and put it on your refrigerator!
I personally stopped in and patronized every participating establishment last year. I would love to join you at one of them next month. Give me a call and we will get together to dine out and help out!
