PRESS RELEASE: Community Foundation of Northern Nevada Receives a $31,500 Affordable Housing Grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation
As Northern Nevadans continue to be challenged to find affordable housing, the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada has received a $31,500 grant from the Wells Fargo Foundation to help provide a solution to this critical community issue.
Funding from the Wells Fargo Foundation will directly support the expansion of The Village on Sage Street, an affordable housing community opened in August 2019 to provide stability through housing to low-income individuals in Washoe County.
“The Village and its expansion were made possible by philanthropy that not only inspired, but also proved what could be achieved,” said Eaton Dunkelberger, President and CEO of the Community Foundation. “We are deeply grateful for the Wells Fargo Foundation’s initial investment in the original Village on Sage Street, and now, for supporting the expansion of this critical workforce housing resource. This collaboration showcases the transformative power of philanthropy to create innovative, practical solutions and use their impact to further benefit our community.”
This unique facility was originally comprised of eight modular buildings with 216 small single-occupancy units for individuals that are at least 18 years of age earning minimum wage, or those with other low income. The Village on Sage Street’s expansion project is near completion and will increase capacity by nearly 50% for this important target group, providing 96 additional beds for lodgers. The location of this project is ideally situated adjacent to the existing Village.
The Village provides a foundation and stability for its lodgers and contributes to the overall well-being of the entire Northern Nevada community.
The expansion is expected to be completed by the end of 2024.
