2018 High School Giving Circle Grants

Two 2018 Community Foundation High School Giving Circles each recommended $10,000 in grants to the following nonprofit organizations. The Circles were funded by Community Foundation donors who encourage young people in our community to learn about philanthropy. The 2018 High School Giving Circles were facilitated by nonprofit professional, Karen Senger.  Students from area high schools met once a week for 10 weeks to learn about philanthropy, nonprofits, and needs in our community. They interviewed nonprofit organizations working in areas that interested them and in the penultimate meeting came to consensus within their circle for the following grants. Arts for All   Bedside Art Workshops for hospitalized children Casa de Vida Support for retaining the services of a therapist The Children's Cabinet Provide funding  14 overnight stays for youth in SafePlace center and for supplies such as SafePlace signs Communities in Schools Support for Incentive Program (movie tickets, bus passes etc.) The Eddy House Wellness Programming - Partnering with Urban Lotus Yoga Family Counseling Services of Northern Nevada Kids Summer Camperships and funding for volunteer background checks Nevada Coalition to End Domestic & Sexual Violence Funded the Spanish translation and printing for Handbooks for Sexual Assault Survivors Northern Nevada International Center Supports the pilot program to match UNR students with resettled refugee young adults Note-Able Music Therapy Services 5 pentatonic scale boxes Sierra Association of Foster Families Supporting "Hurray for Play" program and unrestricted contribution
