Jean Bear Mullins Memorial Scholarship

Jean Mytkowicz Mullins was born on October 30th, 1960 in South Hadley, Massachusetts. She graduated from South Hadley High School and continued to receive her BA in Economics at Mount Holyoke College where she graduated Phi Beta Kappa. She passed away on June 16, 2020.

Jean was incredibly involved in the Alliance with the Washoe Country Medical Society (AWCMS) and the Nevada State Medical Association Alliance. For the last 29 years, Jean held AWCMS executive board positions including secretary, member of the nominating committee, VP of Membership, President-Elect, and President. Many people in the Reno community will remember her devotion to the annual rummage sale, where she was chair of the men’s department for 20 years. Additionally, for the last five years, she was President-Elect or President of the Nevada State Medical Association Alliance. Jean truly believed in the advocacy, philanthropy, and camaraderie that these organizations stood for, and lived each of these in her daily life. We are so proud of her accomplishments, and she was proud of the success of the organization.

In honor of our beloved wife and mother, who was lovingly known as Jean Bear to her children, we have started the Jean Bear Mullins Memorial Scholarship to help students from Washoe County who have been accepted to or are currently enrolled in a Physician Assistant program or Medical School program at an accredited college or university nationwide. We are so proud to be able to honor her legacy.
