Stuart Gordon Recognized for Extraordinary Volunteerism

To honor Past Board Chair, Jim Pfrommer the Community Foundation established an annual award and $1,000 grant in his memory. The James L. Pfrommer Award for Extraordinary Volunteerism was given to Stuart Gordon at the Shareholders Gathering on September 13. Read why Stuart is the 2019 award winner in this nomination by Elizabeth Estes. Stuart founded the Summer of Healing camp for child survivors of sexual assault over 20 years ago. Three years ago, he expanded his program to include a second camp for children affected by violence. These camps are comprised of 6 days at the Ronald McDonald camp in Northern California, at Eagle Lake. He has expanded his camps to include children from all over Nevada, providing free transportation for children and volunteers from Las Vegas, Pahrump, Winnemucca and more. His camps have shown over the years to provide treatment that is equivalent to a year of therapy. He has received awards from many Nevada agencies, including  Social Worker of the Year, most innovative treatment program, and others. Stuart has attended every camp, every year, without fail. He has given 288 hours per year for over 20 years of his own time to these camps and to the children that benefit from them. In addition, he spends many more hours every year raising funds for the camps. His commitment to the children of Nevada knows no bounds.
