Community Foundation of Western Nevada Earns Respected Designations

Astute donors are yearning for greater accountability, transparency, and for concrete results from the charitable sector. You can have confidence when you trust the Community Foundation of Western Nevada for your philanthropy that our work, governance, and policies reach the highest level of transparency and best practices. We are proud to be one of six nonprofit organizations in northern Nevada to earn Four Stars from Charity Navigator. A Four-Star rating is the highest possible rating and indicates that an organization adheres to sector best practices and executes its mission in a financially efficient way. We have also earned a 2019 Guidestar Gold Seal. Community members, as well as more than 10 million GuideStar users, can find in-depth information about our goals, strategies, capabilities, and progress. We're shining a spotlight on the difference we help make in the world! GuideStar is the world's largest source of information on nonprofit organizations. After a rigorous review of internal documents, policies, and operations by the Council on Foundations National Standards Board in 2019, we continue to be designated as an accredited Community Foundation. National Standards set consistent expectations among community foundation boards and staff.

Give with Confidence this Holiday Season

Not every community has a community foundation as your trusted resource on charitable giving. The Community Foundation of Western Nevada specializes in regional giving and we know the local charities by name, location, services, and efficiency. We can help you make a gift with an impact. Fundholders know they can call our Donor Services Team with questions and that charities receiving their grants will be vetted. Give thoughtfully by taking a few extra precautions before pushing a donate button or writing a check. Be on guard against groups masquerading as charitable organizations to attract donations from unsuspecting contributors. Be wary of charities with names similar to familiar or nationally known organizations. Spend a few extra minutes to make sure your contribution goes to legitimate and currently eligible charities. This smart practice will help you give wisely. If you receive a donation request from a charity you do not know well, take a few moments and look them up on Charity Navigator.org and GuideStar.org. You will learn about their mission, Board, programs, IRS designation, and how much of their budget is allocated to their programs and how much of your donation will offset their administration expenses. Then - give generously, and confidently, knowing you are making the world a bit brighter. If you are ready to be part of the philanthropic community and want to learn more about Community Foundation services and opportunities for charitable giving, call me at 775-333-5499. I look forward to talking with you. Chris Askin, President, and CEO
