Village on Sage Street Needs Your Contribution to Open Doors by Winter

Together we can move mountains or as we celebrated on Thursday, move dorm-style modular housing from eastern Wyoming to Sage Street in Reno. The Village on Sage Street, a housing option for low income working people and seniors who are being evicted from weekly motels is moving at an astounding pace. What started in February as an idea, is on its way to becoming a community of 200 people by the end of the year. A “Can Do” attitude is enabling the Village on Sage Street to overcome numerous obstacles and I am confident that our generous community will meet and beat funding challenge. Action of this magnitude has generated unprecedented support and cooperation from our Community and created a rare Private/ Public/ Social partnership. The Village on Sage Street:

  • Creates a sudden 20% plus increase in transitional housing in Washoe County, before the snow flies.
  • Becomes a model for our community, and other cities across the nation.
  • Offers a new chance for residents at the lowest income levels to build/rebuild their lives.
  • Welcomes young people launching, or seniors who are priced out of housing, or any single adult who is confronting other issues and needs stability to save money and get ahead.

We need your help.  Will you help bring the Village on Sage Street home? The available modular dorms were offered to us for sale at a greatly discounted price for a limited time. There wasn't the luxury of time to line up the funding to make it happen. The Village on Sage Street is an $8.3 million project that has, within two months, generated contributions of $5.8 million of funding and underwriting. We need $2.5 million in donations from community members like you to make this project work. Photos, FAQ, and Donate Online. Information for future residents and access to the waiting list can be found at the Volunteers of America website.  https://www.voa-ncnn.org/sagestreet. Contribute to this self-supporting bridge housing community. Your gift today will result in thousands of people living in safety and security with support, to move on to their next life step. Please join your fellow Community Foundation fundholders, neighbors, and friends, and contribute generously so we can open the Village on Sage Street before winter arrives. The Community Foundation has the ability to fund the project in the short-term, so donations can be committed now, but fulfilled over the next three years.  Contribute online with your credit card, or call Chris Askin at 775-333-5499 to discuss charitable gift options for larger gifts.
