Reno Rebuild Fund Helps Open Wells Ave. Business

Barrie Schuster accepts $20,000 loan from Mike Connolly.

Straddling the corner of Colorado River Blvd and Wells Avenue, Café Deluxe is open for business. Owned by long-time Wells Avenue community advocate and resident Barrie Schuster, the Deluxe Café is the 2013 winner of a $20,000 microloan from the Reno Rebuild Project Fund. The Community Foundation administers the Reno Rebuild Project Fund and worked with its business partner donors to create a contest with a short-term business start-up loan as the prize.  As the loan is paid off the proceeds will return to the fund. The goal of the Reno Rebuild Project Fund is to encourage local entrepreneurial efforts and revitalize our community’s core business areas. “The Reno Rebuild Guys,” as they are affectionately called at the Foundation office, represent a new breed of philanthropist.  Mike Connolly, Chris Kahl and Zachary Cage, owners of Legends Grill, Sports & Spirits; Sierra Tap House; Ole Bridge Pub; and the Brewer’s Cabinet, commit 5 cents from every item purchased in their establishments to a fund to help aspiring entrepreneurs launch their businesses.
