Generosity Matched by Efficiency

$468,643 out the door, today!

That’s the total of this morning’s 75 grant checks just signed and in the mailbox.  These 75 grants are the second batch this week and a fraction of the 2019 end of year grants.  Northern Nevada is such a generous community.  People sometimes ask me if this is the busiest time of the year at the Community Foundation. It isn’t always, but this year, the answer is YES. Our staff isn’t just busy with end of year grants; we are busy with end of year gifts as well. The Financial and Development departments are in a flurry of activity accepting stock gifts, mutual funds, real property gifts, checks, and even a gift of income-producing mineral rights.  These gifts are being made in support of donor-advised funds, funds designating specific charities, endowments, charitable trusts, scholarship funds, the community endowment, and our operating fund.  The Community Foundation is honored to be a trusted partner in implementing people’s philanthropy. As you read this column Christmas will only be three days away, or perhaps you’re reading it after Christmas.  Nonetheless, we pride ourselves in being able to quickly and efficiently handle any charitable gifting plans or needs, however last minute.  At the risk of being called on Christmas Day, but with a true intent to help when I can, if you have any last-minute charitable giving ideas, call me at 775-333-5499.

On New Year's Eve we stay here until 5 pm, and sometimes a bit later.

We had one donor who prided himself in arriving at our office, every year, on New Year's Eve, exactly at 5 pm.  Although it is nice to plan ahead and take care of things in advance, I kind of miss those visits.  It was an opportunity to close out the old year and think about the new year, in the company of a friend and donor. If you have been thinking about a 2018 gift, you are not yet quite out of time.  Give me a call. Let’s celebrate the holidays, and the generous giving, of our community. Happy Holidays Chris Askin, President, and CEO Connecting people who care with causes that matter
