The Village on Sage Street is Open

The Village on Sage Street has just opened and individuals from the waitlist as well as newcomers are moving into their new home. Twenty people are living on the campus and another 20 more are moving in during the next few days. Prospective residents are completing their paperwork and laying down deposit/rent to move in daily.  We anticipate that the Village will be fully occupied within a couple of months. We celebrated the Grand Opening Tuesday, August 20. This Photo Gallery has images of the  gathering at 300 Sage Street, and the tour of the finished campus, I am thankful for the key contributors, volunteers, and builders who made this innovative project possible.  The major donors include the City of Reno, Satre Family Fund, Monroe Schuler Fund, Summit Engineering, Gorelick Real Estate Advisors, Q&D Construction, Thomas P. Raley Foundation, Volunteers of America, Western Nevada Supply, Ernest Adamo, and Helix Electric.  The volunteers and visionary leaders that brought it all together include Par Tolles, Allison Gorelick, Dan Carne, Leo McFarland, Pat Cashell, EDAWN, Abbi Agency, Nancy Fennell, Kathie Bartlett, and Shannon Vanostrand.  We are grateful to the builders and especially Q & D Construction, Summit Engineering, Pezonella & Associates, Helix Electric, Group West Construction, RenoGreen Landscape, ABC Fire, Tholl Fence, and Wiley Plumbing. The community has come together to support the Village on Sage Street with more than 100 contributors.  Due to the scale of this project, more donations are needed to complete the funding of the Village.  The Village at Sage Street is a unique project that provides hundreds of individuals with affordable living. Even those at extremely low-income levels will pay no more than 30% of their income for a safe, comfortable place to live. A unique quality of this unprecedented project is that with an occupancy of 90%, the Village on Sage will not require any outside funding for operations.  To accomplish the goal of a self-paying community, 80% of the initial development costs must be contributed.  The remaining 20% can be financed and paid off through rental incomes. Inspired donors contributed upfront, including donations of good and services by contractors. These contributions and the City of Reno’s donation of land for the community site have covered 46% of the cost. The remaining 34% or $3.1 million, needs to be raised. Now that the campus is complete and people are moving in, please help us finish the funding of the Village on Sage Street.  Join with the visionary donors and give to make this one-of-a-kind-housing option a gift to our community. Please contribute to the Community Foundation of Western Nevada, Community Housing Land Trust. You are welcome to donate online at https://nevadafund.org/housing/ or call us at 775-333-5499.  Your support to complete the funding of the Village on Sage Street is greatly appreciated. Give generously and offer to hundreds of vulnerable, hard-working people a way to meet their most important need … a safe and secure place to live. Please join me for the Grand Opening on Tuesday and celebrate the completion of this remarkable project. Chris Askin, President, and CEO
