What is CASA?

Change a Child’s Story

CASA

Each court-appointed special advocate (CASA) volunteer is appointed by a judge to advocate in court for the best interest of a child. CASA volunteers’ advocacy helps ensure that children are safe, have a permanent home, and have the opportunity to thrive. The Washoe County CASA Program in the Second Judicial District Court is dedicated to the safety, well-being, and best interests of abused, neglected and dependent children who are the subject of judicial proceedings. The Washoe CASA Foundation supports the CASA Program through community awareness, fundraising, and recruitment and retention of volunteers.

The National CASA/GAL Association has promoted best-interest advocacy for more than 40 years.  From inception to today, so many have been moved by our cause and have committed themselves to change children’s stories. There are currently nearly 950 state and local programs that recruit, train, and support volunteers, serving more than 260,000 children in 49 states and the District of Columbia.
