Nonprofit Connections Links Donors to Local Nonprofits

A recent caller to the office had the misconception that the Community Foundation chose the nonprofits listed in Nonprofit Connections and the categories they are listed under. Not so. Every 501c3  nonprofit in northern Nevada is encouraged to create a Funding Priorities Page so the Community Foundation can list them on Nonprofit Connections in up to three out of 14 categories of their choosing. I find it interesting that an animal rescue group may choose to be listed under the category "children". Then I read their funding priorities page and see they serve children through educational programming and want to highlight that aspect of their mission. The purpose of the Nonprofit Connections is to briefly and efficiently point donors to organizations that are working in areas that match their charitable interest. Donors and fundholders like that the brevity of the organization's funding priorities page tells them how to make the most impact with a gift of $1,000 to $10,000. They like to look through the category and see what needs they can meet. Often they stay and explore other areas of the organization's website to learn more about people on staff and their work in the community. Nonprofits like the free platform to introduce their story and their mission. The organizations control their funding priority message and are responsible for maintaining the linking landing pages on their own websites. They are encouraged to update as often as needed to keep fresh. The Community Foundation likes to have a neutral place to refer people when they call asking how they can help their favorite cause.  Nonprofit Connections is one of the ways we connect people who care with causes that matter.
