As the Community Engagement Officer for the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada, Nick Tscheekar oversees the Community Foundation’s initiatives and community engagement activities. Nick has launched the Caregiver Support Initiative and Preventing Financial Scams Initiative. He is the staff liaison to the Community Engagement Committee and the DEI Taskforce, facilitator of the Nonprofit Academy, and lead staff member on evaluating the Community Foundation’s impact.
Nick started with the Community Foundation as an AmeriCorps VISTA (the domestic version of the Peace Corps) in 2014. During his year of service, Nick led the Youth Network Initiative and focused on outreach for RenoYouthNetwork.com and community awareness of youth homelessness. Nick participated in “This Is Homelessness” in 2015 in which he went homeless for three days with Eddy House founder, Lynette Eddy, Pat Cashell, and other community advocates to connect with youth who were homeless and to inform them about the soon to be launched Eddy House Drop-In Center. Nick was hired into a permanent staff position after completing his AmeriCorps VISTA service.
Nick graduated from the University of Nevada, Reno with degrees in Political Science and International Affairs. Nick’s favorite part of the Community Foundation is getting to work with caring people to turn ideas into solutions. Outside of work, Nick is the Vice Chair of the Northern Nevada Literacy Council and is a member of the Reno Storytellers Toastmasters Club.
