Non-Traditional Scholarships Support Employment Training in Northern Nevada

Do you know a student who has made a significant change in his or her life? Perhaps a mother who wants to attend college or trade school to better support her children, or a high school student who had an "aha!" moment and began to buckle down and study as a junior in high school? Look through the Community Foundation scholarships that fit the nontraditional student. Your student may be just the person the selection committees for these nontraditional scholarship funds are looking for. Community Foundation fundholders are recognizing the many paths to success and the necessity of post-secondary education in today’s economy. The Foundation is proud to administer these scholarships that focus on helping the student who is striving for a better life through an university education or Community College/Trade School Certificate program. Peggy Bowker Memorial Scholarship for Women in Engineering. For women entering freshman, returning students or non –traditional students working for a degree in Engineering from the University of Nevada, Reno.  Peggy Bowker had the distinction of being the first licensed female civil engineer in the state of Nevada; an    accomplishment that was very much in keeping with the drive and     determination she demonstrated in all facets of her life. The scholarship is designed to carry on her legacy. Robert and Judy Dreiling Scholarship The Dreiling scholarship will pay up to $5,000 for an Associate’s Degree or certificate program at private trade schools or community colleges for  one or more candidates.The degree track or certificate program should result in a good lead to a good job.  CJ Jones Memorial Scholarship The Clarence “CJ” Jones Memorial Scholarship is offered by the Community Foundation of Western Nevada to qualified senior students at the Washoe County School District AACT. This scholarship is a testament to CJ and the lives he touched. Through this scholarship fund, CJ’s legacy of helping young people to get ahead in life and to achieve their dreams will live on. Northern Nevada Youth Scholarship The Northern Nevada Youth Scholarship is designed for the student who demonstrates commitment, passion, and drive.  This student has experienced a renewed dedication to academics and has determined to change his/her life, or are the “comeback kids.” The selection committee of this scholarship has a long history of investing time, energy, and resources into students just such as these and are proud to offer this scholarship to help with their academic success. The Reno & Gloria Quilici Scholarship The Quilici Scholarship designed for the student who may not qualify for other scholarships based on GPA but demonstrates commitment, passion, and drive. The Reno & Gloria Quilici Scholarship is designed for students who
  • are graduating seniors from Churchill County High School.
  • may think college is out of reach.
  • do show potential, have drive, and are likely to succeed.
  • Are attending college at UNR,  UNLV, Great Basin College, Western Nevada College or out of state schools while paying in-state tuition.
Ron and Linda Smith Family Scholarship The Ron & Linda Smith Family Scholarship is offered to a Northern  Nevada resident attending Truckee Meadows Community College, Western Nevada College, or Great Basin College, who is pursuing a degree or certificate program. Zonta Club of Greater Reno TMCC Re-entry Center Scholarship Applicants for this women’s scholarship much be registered with the TMCC Re-entry Center, especially women studying for non-traditional career fields.
