It’s our 16th Birthday!

Friday February 28, the Community Foundation of Western Nevada turned 16.  To me that conjures up lots of thoughts and images, such as…  we’ve got our driver’s license and are on the road, we’re almost an adult, we’re old enough to date, and of course, sweet 16.  Pretty exciting stuff! So, in homage to our birthday celebration today’s column is composed of birthday quotes.  Enjoy. "All the world is birthday cake, so take a piece, but not too much.”  George Harrison “Youth comes but once in a lifetime.” - Henry Wadsworth Longfellow “A birthday is just the first day of another 365-day journey around the sun. Enjoy the trip!” “Growing old is mandatory; growing up is optional.” - Chili Davis “The way I see it, you should live everyday like it’s your birthday” - Paris Hilton “It takes a long time to grow young.” - Pablo Picasso “The secret to staying young is to live honestly, eat slowly, and lie about your age.” - Lucille Ball “And in the end, it's not the years in your life that count. It's the life in your years.” - Abraham Lincoln We may just be 16 years old, but we are a sixteen year old that has an abundance of life experiences.  Under the guidance of a Board of Trustees of 16, an Advisory Board of 20, and a staff of 7, we bring together hundreds of years of experience with charity governance and management and have deep experience and resources enabling and encouraging philanthropy. Please join me this weekend in enjoying a piece of cake and toasting to the Community Foundation of Western Nevada.  We’re growing up and will be here for generations to come, serving the community and bringing new efforts and resources together to future generations, including all those who live here who are turning 16 and looking forward to a bright tomorrow. We make philanthropy simple, powerful, and effective. Chris Askin, President and CEO, PS: Last week’s column inadvertently left off Nevada Diabetes Association, an important sponsor to the Estate and Financial Planning Series of workshops. Underwritten by KNPB and the Community Foundation, the Estate and Financial Planning Series are brought to the community as a free service through the workshop’s nonprofit sponsors.
