The Family Estate Planning Series is a free, in-depth series of workshops.

The Family Estate Planning Series is an eight-week session of classes that discusses the fundamentals of estate planning, wills, probate and trusts, responsibilities of fiduciaries, benefits of trusts, power of attorney, health care directives, and ethical wills, protecting digital assets, and more.

The Family Estate Planning Series is offered in the fall and spring. In 2019, an average of 80 people attended per week. The Series is taught by volunteer attorneys and professionals and sponsored by local nonprofits.  The series for 2019 was televised and will be available for viewing on the Community Foundation website and PBS Reno in early 2020.

Fall 2019 Survey

  • 98% of participants found new or interesting information on the presenting nonprofit organizations
  • 100% of participants would recommend the Family Estate Planning Series to a family member or friend
  • 58% of participants are more likely to leave a portion of their estate to charity as a result of the Family Estate Planning Series
  • 86% of participants felt more prepared to leave a legacy for their family as a result of the Family Estate Planning Series
  • 86% of participants felt less stressed about estate planning as a result of the Family Estate Planning Series
  • 84% of participants will create or change their will/trust/estate plan
  • 86% of participants will hire an attorney to create their will/trust/estate plan
  • The average knowledge gained after the fall Family Estate Planning Series was 79%

Spring 2019 Survey

  • 97% of the participants said they would recommend the Family Estate Planning Series to a friend or family member
  • 65% of the participants said they are more likely to leave a portion of their estate to charity after participating in the series
  • 90% of the participants said they are more prepared to leave a better legacy for their family after participating in the series
  • 75% of the participants said they feel less stressed about estate planning after participating in the Family Estate Planning Series
  • 95% of the participants said they would be willing to create and change their will/trust/estate plan after participating in the Family Estate Planning Series
  • 90% of participants said they would hire an attorney to create their will/trust/estate plan after participating in the classes
  • The average knowledge gained after the spring Family Estate Planning Series was 33%
