Power of Endowment – One family – one town’s story

A tragic accident ended the life of young Emily Jane Wilbanks in 1999. But her values, memory and energy are still vibrant and are making life better for girls in her small Sierra Valley town. Emily’s parents began an endowment with her college savings and memorial contributions from neighbor’s and friends. In memory of Emily, a gifted athlete, this permanent endowment fund is dedicated to encouraging and supporting girl’s athletics and higher education.

Within the lifetimes of Emily’s sisters the fund should grow to more than $2 million. Even more profound is that the interest disbursed as grants during that time will also be $2 million.

Emily’s enthusiasm for life has touched her community, helped rejuvenate the softball field, given college scholarships to  local, bright, young women and will continue to light the way for girls for generations to come.
