Do You Have a Will?

Truly a dreaded question, and one we like to avoid.  “I don’t need a will yet; I just got out of college!” “I don’t need a will yet; I don’t have that much in assets!”  “I don’t need a will yet; I’m not sure what I want to do.”  “I don’t need a will yet, but I’ve been collecting lots of ideas, and I have them in a pile somewhere.” Creating a will and/or trust seems to have nothing to do with a time in your life, whether or not you have kids, or the amount, or the complexity of your assets.  Though a will or trust is not something I would usually mention or bring up in a conversation with people I run into, when we are discussing legacy plans I am often surprised at the people who don’t have a will.  I have met people with significant assets in their 60’s, 70’s, 80’s, and yes, even in their 90’s who still have not done any estate planning. How would you feel if you could attend a class, anonymously, and be sure nobody would get your contact information or try to sell you anything?  What if the class is held conveniently, centrally, offered twice daily for seven weeks that would give you a comprehensive understanding so when you meet with your attorney, you can get it done more quickly and cost effectively, and exactly as you wish.?

WELL, HERE IT IS!

The Family Estate Planning Series starts on September 20th, and runs through November 1st, from 10:30am-Noon OR 1:30-3pm, on Wednesdays, at the Sierra View Library, at Reno Town Mall on S. Virginia.  Presented by volunteer fiduciary advisors, mostly attorneys, and facilitated by Kurt Mische, KNPB CEO, this class has been taken by more than 1,700 of your friends and neighbors in the Truckee Meadows. The series has been greatly acclaimed by them for both the content and presentation. The series of classes cover the fundamentals of estate planning, wills, probate and trusts, the responsibilities of executors and trustees, power of attorney, health care directives, ethical wills, Medicaid and health insurance.  Sound complicated?  Well, the Family Estate Planning Series makes it much less so. So please join us, or forward this email to someone local that you know would benefit from this opportunity.  You can sign up by calling the Community Foundation at 775-333-5499. This community education program is one of many leadership activities in which the Community Foundation of Western Nevada is engaged.  We’re all about gifting and granting, but also about collaborations, initiatives, legacies, and bringing people together through philanthropy and leadership to improve our lives, our families, our communities. If we can help, please give us a call.  You might be surprised at how easy it is to get engaged. Chris Askin, President, and CEO Connecting people who care with causes that matter
