Mentoring is a special role that helps another see love and hope within themselves.  Being part of this process is a gift.

January is National Mentoring Month. What better way to start the new year than by making an impact on someone’s life through the gift of mentorship?

They say experience is the best teacher, but sometimes,  experiences can also be shared through the eyes and wisdom of somebody who has already been there.

By taking on the rewarding role of becoming a mentor, you are helping unlock a young individual’s potential for a better future.

I came across my own mentor when I was in my late teens, and she was a big proponent of education. She instilled in me the importance of education so much so that I, too, gained a better understanding of just how valuable it is. She also taught me how to be strong, and to walk away from anyone or anything that could set me back in life. She has a lot of influence on me to this day and I will always be thankful that she walked into my life.

Although it can be a daunting thought to take on mentoring with schedules and other personal commitments, the time you put in is not as consuming as most people would think and is rewarding.

Nevada Mentors is an online resource that was created for potential mentors to be able to easily find the information they need based on their interests as well as be matched to the program that is right for them.

We are in partnership with 8 local nonprofit organizations, each with different causes and time commitment. Through nevadamentors.org, potential mentors can easily find and choose programs based on their interests and schedules.

Nevada Mentors is in collaboration with 360 Blueprint, Awaken, Big Brothers Big Sisters of Northern Nevada, Junior Achievement of Northern Nevada, The Children’s Cabinet Mentoring +, The First Tee of Northern Nevada, Youth First, and the Washoe County CASA Program.

Mentoring ensures that young people grow up knowing there is someone who cares about them, someone who will listen to what they have to say and encourage them to achieve their goals. Mentoring can have positive impacts on a child’s education, daily life, and their future.

Not only can mentoring change the lives of children and youth, but it can often transform the life of a mentor.
