Community Foundation of Western Nevada Grants Reach $132 Million

This week in its 22nd year, the Community Foundation of Western Nevada announced that more than $132 million in grants and scholarships were made since February 1998. In 2019, The Community Foundation Board of Trustees approved more than $13,253,000. in grants and scholarships, mostly to regional nonprofit organizations. Community Foundation fundholders recommended 999 different grants to support the causes and organizations that matter to them. The majority of grants were distributed from Community Foundation donor advised funds. Fundholders use donor advised funds at their discretion, to make grants at any time to IRS approved charities, governmental or educational organizations. They are the most flexible and personal philanthropic funds managed by the Community Foundation. Endowments benefiting specific nonprofits or scholarships also distributed a sizable portion of the total grants. The Community Foundation grew from a few visionary supporters in 1998 to the philanthropic hub of Northern Nevada with a Board of 37 members. Its core mission is simple, to connect people who care with causes that matter. "I am continuously astounded at the generosity and thoughtfulness of Nevadans", said Community Foundation of Western Nevada CEO Chris Askin. "It is an honor to provide our fundholders with philanthropic services to strengthen our community and enhance their philanthropy. The Community Foundation is growing because it focuses on making philanthropy achievable and beneficial for its donors.  Tax-advantaged giving, gifting unusual assets such as land, or business interests, and working with donors’ families and professional advisors, can unleash philanthropy in a powerful way. Because of savvy donors' generosity, grants to nonprofits of all sizes make Northern Nevada a better place for all of us, and for future generations."
