Caregivers to Seniors: We Want to Hear from You
If you are a caregiver to an aging family member you know the special rewards and the unique challenges that come with the job. Your responsibilities can be overwhelming and there never seems to be enough hours in the day. Isolation, financial burdens, and the lack of knowledge of community resources can leave you burned out and your loved one receiving less than optimum care. However, you are not alone. We want to hear from you. Your service and care for your family is an important part of our community. At the Community Foundation of Western Nevada, as strongly as we believe that what you do matters, we also believe that your voice matters. That is why we have created the Caregiver Support Initiative, to address the challenges facing family caregivers to senior citizens. On Saturday morning, September 10, come to a free community convening at the Washoe County Senior Services Center. We will eat breakfast together and talk about caregiving issues. There will be a mix of senior service providers, elected officials, and caregivers at your table along with a discussion facilitator. Afterward, the entire room will summarize their table’s conversation and talk about the most pressing issues. Powerful things happen when people come together. You know what will be the most help to your family. Tell us. Let us know what is working for you and your loved one. Share your experiences and wisdom with other caregivers. Learn from each other, and inform the service providers, government representatives and philanthropists who want to know how they can support you in your caregiving. These conversations can inspire new ways we can work together to make your caregiver responsibilities more manageable and our community more supportive. Your time and energy are valuable and we honor your efforts. Join Us. When we come together to listen to and learn from each other we have the power to impact both caregivers and our community.
