Australian Bushfire Disaster Relief

As the images and stories of devastation, desperation, and heroism across the broadcast news and social media connect Nevadans to our neighbors across the globe in Australia, we have been asked,  "What can I do?" "What is the best way to help?" "Which organizations can use my contribution effectively to help people who have lost their homes?" " How do I donate to wildlife rescue?" As a service to our fundholders and to the community, the Community Foundation of Western Nevada vetted the following organizations helping in Australia.

Cash donations are most needed; funding will be needed for years to come.

Center for Disaster Philanthropy Update & Critical Needs: https://disasterphilanthropy.org/disaster/2019-australian-wildfires/The Center for Disaster Philanthropy- Global Recovery Fund
  • The CDP Global Recovery Fund is exclusively for international disasters and allows donors to earmark contributions to meet specific philanthropic goals for any global crisis to support medium- to long-term recovery work. Or, there is the option to allow CDP to allocate your investment where it is needed the most. The Global Recovery Fund provides an efficient, flexible solution to expedite a gift to support recovery efforts for sudden on-set disasters or protracted humanitarian emergencies, such as the Australian Bushfires.

  • Over the last 40 years WWF has worked on species conservation and habitat and landscape management across Australia, in partnership with traditional owners, communities, nonprofits, scientists, businesses, and governments. Over the coming weeks, months, and years, we will work together to:
      • Address immediate needs
      • Recover critical habitats
      • Prepare for future emergencies
 The Nature Conservancy

      • Work to identify, manage and protect critical unburned habitats within the fire zone. These areas have become extremely important refuges for native species;
      • Help fund and deliver the restoration of habitats affected by fire; and
      • Help inform an appropriate response to managing fire in a warming climate.
