Shari is the Vice President of Donor Relations for the Community Foundation of Northern Nevada. Most recently, she served as Associate Athletics Director for Development at the University of Nevada, Reno. In this role, she was responsible for garnering support for more than 400 student-athletes to ensure they could compete for championships and prepare them for a life of service after graduation. Before moving into Athletics, Shari served as Director of Development for the School of Medicine on campus. In this role, she was directly responsible for securing over $20 million in outright and planned gifts to benefit medical education, research, and clinical operations.
She brings more than 20 years of experience in comprehensive campaigns, donor relations, foundation and corporate relations, planned giving, board development, and volunteer training to the Community Foundation. Previous to the University, she served for 10 years as Director of the Renown Health Foundation. In that leadership role, she supported the capital, technological and operating needs for the largest healthcare provider in northern Nevada. Earlier in her career, Netzel served as Vice President at Netzel Associates, a consulting firm that provided successful on-site campaign management and counsel to non-profit organizations.
Shari is actively involved in professional organizations, including serving as past board president for the Association of Fundraising Professionals, which she was named "Fundraising Professional of the Year" in 2015, and a past board member of the Planned Giving Roundtable of Northern Nevada. Netzel's community involvement has included volunteering and supporting numerous community organizations including the Children's Miracle Network, the Nevada Women's Fund, AYSO, Sparks Pop Warner, and the Spanish Springs High School Athletics Booster Club. She graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in marketing from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas.
