Websites, Social Media, Connecting and Communicating
The Community Foundation has a long presence online. From our first URL www.cfwnv.org, which launched 16 years ago, to our current website nevadafund.org, it’s always been a priority that we communicate with the community through every channel available, and the internet is the best way to connect with the largest number of people. Aside from the Community Foundation site, we also administer several websites that focus specifically on some of our charitable funds and initiatives.
www.truckeeriverfund.org – Is a platform for information about The Truckee River Fund, a grantmaking fund that has distributed more than $12 million to 193 projects that enhance and protect our water quality. The $12 million in grants has been expanded two and three times over by matching dollars and in-kind support.
www.nvdreamtag.org – Serves individuals interested in the purchase of NV Dream Tag raffle tickets, with the proceeds being used for grants to support wildlife and wildlife habitat throughout the state. The site publicizes the NV Dream Tag Fund Requests for Proposals, posts stories from tag winners and publishes meeting documents of the fund advisory committee.
www.renoyouthnetwork.com – Is a searchable database with hundreds of service providers that help homeless, runaway, unattached and aging out of foster care youth ages 12-24. Designed and tested by youth experiencing homelessness.
www.washoecaregivers.org – Connects family caregivers to vital services, through is a searchable database of over 300 community resources, including those that are free and low-cost. Designed and tested by caregivers, it also features a blog about caregiving by caregivers and local professionals.
www.nevadafund.org, The Community Foundation website is a comprehensive place to learn about the scope and reach of what we do. Information on RFPS, scholarship applications, blog posts and downloadable resources are available. Nevadafund.org links to dozens of local nonprofit organizations websites in the nonprofit connections section. Embedded within the planned giving tab is charitable gift planning site managed by Crescendo Interactive. This section is a valuable resource for attorneys, accountants and financial planners that includes a searchable database of legal documents and templates, as well as gift planning and modeling software.
Websites are just one way we communicate digitally. You can follow the Community Foundation through Facebook, YouTube, and my Twitter account, although I am notorious for my lack of tweets. I suppose that needs to change since that is a primary source of information, and communication, for many of us.
We continue to strive to connect with all caring residents in the region, so if you’re on Facebook please “like” our page facebook.com/nevadafund. If you think I should join in the Twittersphere, follow me at: Chris Askin (@chrisaskin2).
And, if you prefer, we can always go old school, via email to caskin@nevadafund.org or by giving me a call: 775-333-5499. I’ll probably suggest we meet in person because, well, I like connecting face to face best of all.
