Planned Giving Round Table Celebrates 15th Anniversary
Time sure does fly. Fifteen years ago, a group of us gathered at the Community Foundation office to discuss the formation of a chapter of the National Committee on Planned Giving. Our common denominator was our desire to increase awareness of the potential of planned charitable gifts during life and through estate plans to improve our community. The group's mission fit so neatly with the mission of the Community Foundation, and it was in the hearts and minds of senior development officers and professional advisors in our community but we needed to organize.
The first Planned Giving Roundtable of Northern Nevada group included Robyn Powers, Joel Muller, Bob Eggleston, Gus Rosse, and myself. We offer unique and high-level educational experiences locally for professional advisors and have held dozens of training events that taught and influenced hundreds of professionals.
As a result, giving in our region has increased. Most importantly, hundreds of local residents have learned about the potential for helping others while making smart financial and estate decisions for themselves and their families. That first meeting took exactly 60 minutes, but the impact has been tremendous Presidents of the organization have included Brian Sedway, Joel Muller, Heidi Foster, Robyn Powers, Lisa Riley, Millie Mitchell, Jim Marren, Brian Loy, Stuart Golder, and Lynda Mahorter. Simon Williams is the Planned Giving Round Table current President. There are now 53 members led by an impressive Board.
The educational opportunities continue to set a standard for excellence and provide a perspective that helps both professional advisors and development officers to build their planned giving communications and services. We encourage professional advisors to work collaboratively with clients to ensure they have the impact and the smart planning, they desire. The Planned Giving Round Table is a group worthy of attention, and support.
I urge everyone to check out their website, https://www.pgnv.org/ and attend one of their events. With hundreds of thousands of residents in our region served by thousands of professional advisors, it will take all of us to ensure that generous people learn of the resources and strategies to help them achieve their charitable and family goals.
The Community Foundation of Western Nevada is all about strengthening community and helping others. Supporting the development and growth of the Planned Giving Roundtable of Northern Nevada is just one of the ways we accomplish that mission. If we can help you with your philanthropic ideas and goals, please give us a call.
