New to Reno-Sparks? Moving Here Means Giving Here, Also
If you are new to the Reno-Sparks area, welcome.
By Jamie Klund, Development Associate Northern Nevada has become a hot destination due to a great year-round climate, wonderful outdoor amenities and attractions like Lake Tahoe, a thriving arts and culture scene (Artown and dozens of special events too numerous to mention) and a very favorable business tax climate. Not to mention no state income tax. Or maybe you are reading this and know someone who has recently moved here or is planning to move here.
A great way to show your new residency and prove that your primary domicile is the state of Nevada is to give to local charities, particularly if you are coming here from California.
The Community Foundation of Western Nevada is to here to help you with your philanthropic wishes. Part of relocation, whether due to your business moving here, you are an entrepreneur looking to start the next big thing or you are looking for your retirement destination, is to become part of your new community and imbed yourself in your new hometown. You do this first by buying a home or renting an apartment. Slowly but surely you transfer your professional services locally like banking, insurance, legal, medical, and financial advising. You might also join local professional and civic organizations like EDAWN and the Chamber of Commerce, among others, join a church congregation and any number of other affiliations that get you dialed into your new city. And if you happen to be charitable and philanthropic, you might look for causes and organizations that resonate with you and that you want to help either monetarily, through volunteering, or via both. Donating locally further demonstrates your commitment to this area and it ingratiates yourself to your neighbors, co-workers, and friends you have or will make here. The Community Foundation exists to “connect people who care with causes that matter.” Besides the satisfaction of improving someone’s life with your charitable donation, you will feel happier and improve your own health through endorphins released by being charitable. It reduces stress, increases your desire to be civically minded, and improves your community standing. And by donating property to a donor advised fund you have established with the Community Foundation, you can avoid taxes! All charities and non-profits accept cash, but cash is not king with the Community Foundation. We accept property, both residential and commercial, mineral and water rights, stocks, bonds, and closely-held stock, as well as art and collectibles, cryptocurrency like Bitcoin, and just about anything else you can name. The Community Foundation of Western Nevada has been around for nearly 23 years and dedicated to connecting people who care with causes that matter. We help our fundholders in their giving locally, nationally, and even internationally. As a neutral philanthropic advisor, we research your areas of interest, do site visits, and take care of all the paperwork. In a nutshell, we listen to and execute YOUR philanthropic wishes.
If you are new to the area, again, welcome. And if you are philanthropic, giving locally to your new community is an important part of relocating here.
We are THE local expert that can help you do this so please give us a call at (775) 333-5499 and ask for me, Jamie Klund, Development Associate, or our President/CEO, Chris Askin. We would love to hear about your philanthropic wishes. Sincerely, Jamie Klund, Development Associate Community Foundation of Western Nevada Connecting people who care with causes that matter
