Big Donors with Big Dreams Accomplish Goals through the Community Foundation
The Community Foundation is involved in our fundholders’ charitable interests and manages their grants of all sizes, including large-scale philanthropy. Out of 9,000 grants totaling more than $109 million, examples of collaborative, large-scale granting in the areas of environmental conservation stand out.
Well over $15 million has been granted to conserve the environment. Community Foundation grants from donor advised funds helped preserve Royal Gorge, the Sierra Valley, and the Martis Valley in nearby California. Grants funded river restoration work on the McCarran Ranch Preserve, numerous projects on the Truckee River and Carson River, and conservation projects at dozens of sites throughout the Truckee Meadows, surrounding valleys, and mountains.
Projects focused on preservation and restoration, maintaining and improving the community water quality and resources, on building trails, on preserving habitat, affect all of us and encourage beautiful landscapes and views. We work with fundholders to make leverageable challenge grants, matching grants, grants for easements, grants for maintenance, and grants for property acquisition. Local grant recipient organizations include the Nevada Land Trust, the Nature Conservancy, Truckee-Donner Land Trust, Northern Sierra Partnership, and governmental agencies.
The big dreams of big donors are being realized through thoughtful, collaborative, and generous philanthropy. The Community Foundation aids in the process through tax-advantaged giving, donor services focused on strategically timed and restricted grants, grant acceptance agreements with robust reporting requirements, and monitoring for measurable impact.
What is your dream? Is it big? Will it make a positive difference in the community, and satisfy your passion to leave a legacy?
