Sarah Jahr began working at the Community Foundation in September of 2016 as a year-long Americorps VISTA member. As a VISTA member, Sarah will be assisting with the Youth Network Initiative (You’N-I) and the Caregiver Support Initiative. She is passionate about both initiatives and looks forward to learning more about the problems which are facing these communities and finding accomplishable solutions.
A recent graduate from Cal Poly in San Luis Obispo, Sarah studied Spanish, French and global politics. She studied abroad in Chile from 2014-2015 and is passionate about Latin American culture and political affairs. During her time at university, Sarah was involved in the feminist activist community, she volunteered in a bilingual elementary school and taught summer school for a non-profit called Aim High. This program served at-risk youth in grades 6-9 and her class focused on addressing community related issues in the area as well as preparing her students for high school and college.
Sarah is extremely excited to work with the Community Foundation to address some of the problems she sees in the Reno area. She loves to learn about different cultures, eat great food, and meet new and interesting people.
